News November 13, 2015

AUSTIN, TX, November 13, 2015 – In the latest addition to its growing government portfolio, PCI Solar has begun construction on a 301kW solar array for the City of Douglas, Arizona, located on the U.S.-Mexico border. The array will help power Douglas’ Waste Water Treatment Plant and is the second such recent project in Arizona for PCI Solar. PCI Solar’s recent on-time and on-budget completion of a 400kw ground mount solar project for the City of Bisbee, AZ likely aided in the decision to employ PCI for the city of Douglas. The treatment plant’s high and consistent electric demand and rising energy costs made going solar a compelling value proposition for the City of Douglas. Solar’s extremely low water use compared to conventional energy generation also provided a compelling rationale to go solar in an arid, water-constrained environment like Arizona. The solar project, which will directly offset the Douglas facility’s energy consumption by 50%, will consist of two structures. The first will be a 267.84kW dc ground mounted fixed array. A car shade structure with a 33.48kW array will be the second element of the project. The project is expected to generate 520,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, providing an estimated $640,000 over the next 20 years.
