SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 10, 2023) – Today, HOLT Renewables and Forth Energy unveiled an innovative 1.036 megawatt (MW) solar power system on the parking structure for a commercial bakery, set for completion at Brooks, a mixed-use community on the San Antonio’s South Side, in 2024. The solar array, the largest of its kind at Brooks, represents a major leap forward in sustainable energy solutions for commercial operations.
The solar installation is part of a state-of-the-art parking structure which consists of 1,938 high-efficiency, bifacial solar panels, providing a total capacity of 1.036MW.
The system is expected to offset more than 1,544,000 kilowatt-hours annually, resulting in substantial cost savings over its lifetime. Additionally, the production from the solar installation will offset CO2e equivalent to that of 213 homes electricity use for one year or 2,532 barrels of oil consumed in the first year of operation.
“bakerly Ranch had a desire for a solar energy solution that would be cost effective while meeting the sustainability goals for the organization. We are honored to have been chosen to deliver this groundbreaking system at Brooks, on the City’s South Side. This project demonstrates the incredible potential solar energy has to provide sustainable solutions for businesses,” said Kevin Chavez, sales operations manager at HOLT Renewables.
The solar installation will also provide 53,740 square feet of shaded parking for bakerly employees. The unique canopy covering offers a comfortable and sustainable parking solution for up to 136 team members while also generating clean energy.
“We’re proud to provide innovative, cost-saving solutions for businesses who are committed to finding the renewable energy solution that works best for them,” said HOLT CEO, Peter J. Holt. “Our investment in solar allows our customers to make a positive impact on our planet and on the community, and I applaud bakerly Ranch for making that commitment.”
bakerly Ranch is taking advantage of the federal investment tax credit (ITC), granting a 30% deduction of the solar system’s installation cost from bakerly Ranch’s federal taxes. Additionally, bakerly Ranch received a commercial rebate from the local utility, CPS Energy, further reducing the overall project cost.
“Working with clients, like bakerly Ranch is one of the things I love most about my career. Their passion for finding a sustainable energy solution was evident in our conversations. Brian and his team want to do the right thing for the community and the environment,” said Thomas Dungan, Chief Executive Officer at Forth Energy. “In the end, the planning and construction culminated in a parking structure with multiple benefits.”
The unveiling of the solar power system included a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by key stakeholders, elected officials, members of the community and representatives from bakerly Ranch, HOLT Renewables and Forth Energy.
bakerly Ranch’s $35 million, 137,350-square-foot French bread and pastry production facility is scheduled to be complete at 2767 Research Plaza in 2024.
